Asthma involves chronic inflammation and intermittent narrowing of the airways, making it difficult to breathe. Common triggers include allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and mold, as well as respiratory infections, exercise, cold air, smoke, and air pollution. Allergic asthma — the most prevalent form — occurs when allergen exposure drives airway inflammation through an IgE-mediated mechanism.

How We Diagnose
Accurate asthma diagnosis requires objective pulmonary function testing. Our offices are equipped to perform spirometry and lung function testing, exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) measurement to assess airway inflammation, bronchodilator reversibility testing, and allergy skin testing to identify allergic triggers. These tests help us classify your asthma severity and select the most appropriate treatment.
Treatment Options at South Bay Allergy
Treatment is guided by asthma severity and control. Our allergists use a step-up/step-down approach that may include short-acting bronchodilator rescue inhalers, inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting bronchodilators, leukotriene receptor antagonists, allergen immunotherapy for allergic asthma, and biologic therapies such as anti-IgE and anti-IL-5 agents for severe refractory asthma.
